1. Clean Before You Store

Before putting your leather bag away, gently wipe it down with a soft, dry cloth. If there’s visible dirt or residue, use a slightly damp cloth — never wet — and let it air dry completely.

2. Stuff It to Keep Its Shape

Use acid-free paper, bubble wrap, or clean cotton fabric to gently fill your bag. Avoid newspaper — the ink can transfer.

3. Use a Dust Bag (or a Pillowcase!)

Every leather bag deserves a soft cover. Most brands provide dust bags, but a clean cotton pillowcase works perfectly too. Avoid plastic bags — they trap moisture and can cause mildew.

4. Store in a Cool, Dry Place

Leather hates extremes — too much humidity, sunlight, or heat can cause fading or cracking. Store your bags in a shaded, ventilated place away from direct heat sources.

5. Keep the Hardware Protected

Wrap buckles and metal parts with soft cloth to prevent scratches and oxidation. Detach removable straps and store them separately to avoid pressure marks.

6. Don’t Stack Them

Avoid piling leather bags on top of each other — the weight can deform the bottom one. Instead, line them side by side like books on a shelf.

7. Give It Air Occasionally

Take your bags out once every few months to let them breathe and reshape them gently. It keeps the leather fresh and prevents stiffness.

8. Condition Once or Twice a Year

Use a high-quality leather conditioner to keep the surface supple and smooth. Apply evenly with a soft cloth, then buff gently. Once or twice a year is enough.
