Leslie Friend — a Friend to knit with

Whether in the quiet of her home or on the road as a traveler, Leslie Friend (YouTube: @LeslieFriend, Instagram: @lesliefriend, Blog: a friend to knit with) has cultivated a calm, warm corner for creators everywhere. Her channel, “a Friend to knit with,” is more than just a collection of tutorials; it's a space filled with emotion and story.

From a Life Low to a Healing Journey with Knitting

Leslie's creative story did not begin on a smooth path.

Years ago, she went through a major life transition. Fortunately, she had already been knitting, and during that difficult time, the craft served as her primary emotional anchor.

In her blog, she confessed that the experience taught her to be “strong and sincere.” It is this personal journey that makes her work more than just simple stitches and yarn; it is a vehicle for healing, growth, and hope. With her own two hands, she has woven the ups and downs of life into warm garments and, in the process, knitted a new beginning for herself.

A Unique Brand of “Friendship”

Leslie's shining point lies in the way she deeply intertwines knitting with personal emotion.

Her YouTube videos feel like a relaxed chat with a friend, as she shares her current projects and talks about the small moments in her life. This makes viewers feel as if they are truly knitting alongside a trusted friend.

Her Instagram bio also reflects the unity of her multifaceted identity: a “Wife • Mom • Creator • Knitter • Traveler • Homebody.” These seemingly contradictory roles are, in fact, the core of her creative philosophy.

What's even more special is that many of Leslie's original knitting patterns are named after her family and friends, such as the “Barbie Lou” sweater, named after her mother.
Also the “Friendly” golf club covers, designed for her son. These designs, infused with personal emotion, blur the lines between commerce and sentiment, giving each piece a unique warmth and story. She is not just a knitting content creator, but an artist who uses yarn to document life and convey emotion.

The Art of a Thoughtful Life

Leslie’s social media accounts are an extension of her personal aesthetic. On Instagram, she shares her outfits and daily moments, where her knitting projects are seamlessly integrated with her travels and home life.

Her personal blog, however, is an even more interesting and in-depth window, allowing her to share the stories and thoughts behind her creations.

For example, in one post, she detailed her deliberation over the perfect buttons for a small child’s sweater, even asking for her followers' opinions on Instagram. This kind of genuine interaction transforms everyday creative details into a sincere connection with her community, making her brand persona rich and authentic.

More Than a Product, a Form of Companionship

Through her work and stories, Leslie shows us that knitting is more than a craft - it is a way of life, a method of self-healing, and a means of conveying emotion.

She provides countless knitting enthusiasts with inspiration and companionship, and whether you are a beginner or an expert, you can always find a sense of peace and resonance on her channel.

What she creates is not just beautiful handmade items, but a warm friendship that reminds you that when you need a friend to knit with, Leslie is always there.

Our Collaboration: A Portable Story of Creation

The collaboration between Leslie Friend and our brand is a natural extension of her creative journey. In her video, "a friend to knit with - episode 65 a handmade leather bag and my latest finished knits!," she candidly shares the details of the collaboration. The SY01-Unlined-Caramel-Large-Gold & White DIY bag kit became a creative project in its own right for her. (Get the same kit)

She begins by explaining her initial reaction to the bag: "Honestly, I cannot love this bag more. It is a do-it-yourself kit. I actually made it. Yes. So easy. I cannot say I've never ever done anything like this. I'm not a hand sewer."

Her decision to work with us was purposeful, as she states, "I scoured the website because I wanted something that aligned with knitting and would hold a knitting project and also be able to, you know, look good."

She details the crafting process, sharing that she "laid it all out on my dining room table" and it "probably took me" five days to complete. She describes the materials, noting that the bag is "made out of top grain cowhide and full grain cowhide leather."

To ensure a perfect result, she explains her methodical approach: "I watched the video from start to finish while I was knitting... I watched it on the slowest mode and then I would pause it and work on it. It just the flow was so much better."

Her choice of the unlined bag was also intentional, as she "didn't really want to add weight to my bag because I like a lightweight bag."

The most touching part of her experience was how the DIY kit perfectly suited her identity as a "traveler" and "homebody." Leslie took the unfinished project with her, proudly stating, "I even took it on the train. We were traveling from Pittsburgh to New York and I finished the handles actually on the train."

She concludes by calling the bag "my new favorite knitting bag," and enthusiastically shares, "I am going to definitely buy another one."

Summary

All in all, Leslie Friend's creative story shows us that the value of handmade goods goes far beyond the product itself. It is about the warmth, emotion, and attitude toward life that it carries. Her collaboration with our brand is another vivid example of how she puts this philosophy into practice, sending a simple yet powerful message to her audience. The joy of creating and the companionship it provides can be found anywhere.
