Smooth Oiled Tanned Leather

Oiled wax leather is a type of cowhide treated with a special blend of oils and waxes, giving it characteristics that differ from standard leather during the tanning and finishing process.

Unlike typical chrome-tanned or vegetable-tanned leather, oiled wax leather is infused with rich oils and waxes throughout tanning and finishing, resulting in a softer feel, enhanced flexibility, and excellent durability. Over time and with regular use, each piece gradually develops a unique patina: minor scratches naturally blend into the surface, the oils become more evenly distributed, and the color deepens to reveal a warmer, more vintage appearance.

Minor scratches that occur during use can be easily reduced or removed by gently rubbing with your hand or a soft cotton cloth.

Does leather have an odor?

Yes. Oil-waxed leather has a natural leather scent along with a mild wax smell. It will fade after 1–2 days of ventilation.

Will the color differ from the pictures?

Slight color variation is normal for natural leather. Each hide absorbs dye differently, and screen display differences also affect appearance. This is a natural characteristic of genuine leather, not a defect.

Can surface scratches be removed?

Yes. Lightly rubbing the scratched area with your fingers or a soft cloth allows body heat to redistribute the wax, making the scratch fade or disappear naturally. Deeper marks can be treated with a small amount of leather care oil.

Are natural marks (scars, wrinkles) considered defects?

No. These are natural characteristics of top-grain leather and proof of genuine leather. We carefully select hides to minimize them, but slight natural marks may still appear.

Can thickness, size, or color be customized?

Yes. We support bulk customization. Please contact us for details; minimum order quantities apply.

How should oil-waxed leather be maintained?

Avoid long-term sun exposure and high temperatures. Wipe with a dry soft cloth. For care, apply a thin layer of leather balm or natural wax. Avoid silicone-based products. Minimal maintenance often leads to better aging.
