Round Thread vs. Flat Thread

In terms of appearance and structure:

• Round Thread

Round thread is made by twisting multiple strands together, giving it a rounded shape and a slightly textured surface. It creates a more traditional, handcrafted stitching appearance. During stitching—especially for beginners—it is more likely to split or fray if the needle accidentally pierces the thread.

• Flat Thread

Flat thread is wider and smoother, resulting in cleaner, more refined stitches. It remains more stable during stitching and is less prone to splitting, making it easier to use, particularly for beginners.

Recommended thread and hole combinations:

• Round holes → Flat thread

• Slanted (oblique) holes → Round thread

Matching the thread to the hole shape helps the thread sit naturally in the holes and creates a more balanced, professional-looking stitch. However, this is only a general recommendation rather than a strict rule. Feel free to choose the thread type based on your personal preference and the style you want to achieve.

• The thread color matches the color of the corresponding SY and SYR series DIY bag kits sold in our store.

• For the current SY and SYR series kits: oblique hole versions are paired with round thread. Round hole versions are paired with flat thread. The Birkin kit and SYR series kits with round holes are supplied with round thread instead.

You may return most new, unopened items within 30 days of delivery for a full refund. If the return is due to our error (incorrect or defective item), we’ll cover the return shipping costs.
